What is a ‘relocation’ and why is it so cheap?
A relocation holiday is the most affordable way to see Australia, New Zealand and USA. Standbycars.com acts as an agent for all the major campervan companies.These companies have hundreds of vehicles which need relocating to different cities around Australia, New Zealand and the USA each day. 
 

What is the quickest way to make a booking?

How far ahead can I book?
You can book up to one month in advance depending on what's available.If you are planning on making a few trips (eg: Brisbane-Cairns, Cairns-Alice Springs) register with us as soon as you know your dates so we can assist in securing you a vehicle. 
 

What is the difference between ST, PT, FT and HT?

ST means that the campervan/motorhome has a shower and a toilet

PT means the campervan is a Pop-Top (roof pushes up when you want to stand up in the rear)

FT means Flip-Top (roof pushes up from one side when you want to stand up in the rear)

HT means Hi -Top (vehicle has a fixed high roof so there is standing room in the rear)
Please be aware that if none of the codes above are listed against a vehicle, then you are not able to stand up straight inside the vehicle.
 

Which campervans have showers or toilets?

If you see the code ST beside a vehicle, it will have Shower and Toilet facilities.

 

How many people can travel/sleep in the campervan/motorhome/4WD?

2 Berth PT: 2

2 Berth ST: 2

4 Berth ST 4

6 Berth ST: 6

4WD FT: 2
 

Do I need a special license to drive the campervans?

No, a full/International driver’s license is fine. You do need to be 21 years old and drivers over 75 need a yearly medical certificate.
 

Can I take the relocation in less days than the indicated on “minimum relocation days” column?

In most cases yes but please check this with the consultant at the time of booking. (eg.. if the minimum relocation is 3 days from SYD-MEL and you want to do it in 2 days then that’s fine).
 

Can I take the relocation in more days then indicated on “maximum relocation days” column?

Yes but this depends on when the vehicle needs to be at the destination. These extra days can be purchased at the rate given by the supplier. As the extra day cost will vary depending on the pick up date and vehicle please check with us at the time of booking.

 
Are there mileage restrictions for relocations?
Yes!These distances are given to us by the suppliers and include a minimum of 150 kms over and above the distance.Please note that a charge of 50 cents per kilometre over your allowance applies to most vehicles.

 

How are the relocation days calculated and the hours of operation for relocations?

Days are calculated on calendar day’s basis (not 24hrs) and the hours of relocation Mon-Fri: 0900 – 1500, Sat-Sun: 0900 -1300 (keydrops are not permitted)
 

Petrol costs and fuel allowances?

Australian and USA relocations only. Some of our deals include fuel allowances. The allowance is refunded back to you on drop off on presentation tax receipts.  Fuel consumption is generally 14-17 litres per 100km, depending on vehicle size.

In New Zealand the ferry crossing is usually included for the vehicle and sometimes driver. Please advise your preferred crossing date and time when you make your relocation booking. If your requested crossing is not available the closest available date/time will be booked by the supplier.
 

What are the travel restrictions with the Campervan/Motorhome/4WD?

Campervans/Motorhomes/4WDs are only to be driven on sealed/bitumen roads NOTE: if you have a 4WD relocation, you are not permitted to take the vehicle four wheel driving or on 4WD tracks.

The terms/conditions of your relocation will be explained and highlighted to you upon collection of your vehicle. 
 

Is there a booking fee and cancellation fee?

Yes, the booking fee is $25.00 with a holding fee of $50.00-$100.00 (of which the  holding fee of $50-$100 is refunded on pickup).  However if the vehicle is booked and then cancelled, the booking fee and holding fee will not be refunded.
 

Is there an insurance excess?

YES, the following companies have different policies:

KEA - $1200.00 is your insurance excess if you have an accident or damage the KEA vehicles regardless if it’s your fault or not (if it’s not your fault and KEA can recover the $$ from the other party then your $1200.00 excess will be refunded back to you but will be held till case is closed).

Maui/Britz/Backpacker

Australia - $1000 AUD payable by Debit or Credit card (No Cash Bond permitted) and all rental costs are payable at booking time. For $12 p/day you can reduce the standard excess from $1000 per claim to $500 for each claim/accident. For $18 p/day you can reduce the excess to $100.

New Zealand - $800 NZD payable by Debit or Credit card. For $12 per day you can reduce the standard excess from $800 to $400 per claim/accident.

The card will be processed and credited back at the end of the rental providing the vehicle is returned on time, undamaged and with the fuel tank and gas bottle full

Apollo: Standard Liability

Apollo’s rental relocation charge includes a Standard Liability of $1,000. With this Option a Bond of $1,000 will be collected.

The Standard Liability can be reduced by purchasing the following Reduction Option:

Relocation Reduction Option

A Liability of $500 applies. This Option can be purchased by paying to Apollo $15 per day. With this Option a Bond of $1,000 will be collected.

Bond

With the Relocation Reduction Option or Standard Liability a Bond of $1,000 is payable to Apollo by an open signed credit card imprint with an authorization obtained (sufficient funds must available) for the amount of the Bond. Personal or company cheques, travellers cheques or cash are not accepted. Please note the deposit paid will not be refunded if there are insufficient funds on the credit card for the bond.

The credit card and the credit card holder (incl. Photo ID, eg passport or drivers licence) must be present on pick-up.

The Bond is fully refundable when the vehicle is returned to the correct location on time, is full of fuel and all other terms of the rental contract have been complied with. If there is damage to the vehicle on its return, the Bond will be used to cover the cost of such damage up to the amount of the relevant Liability. However, if the terms of the rental contract are breached and the Bond is insufficient to cover the damage then any extra cost will be charged.
 
How do I pay for my booking fee,holding deposit and bond?
Payment of your booking fee, holding deposit must be done by Visa or Mastercard. Your insurance excess bond is payable by Debit or Credit card unless otherwise specified.

Can I join a waiting list?

 

If you are travelling in the next 2-3 weeks add your details to our waiting list

Then what happens?

We will contact the supplier to confirm availability.  If the vehicle is available we will email you a confirmation which includes all of the pick up and drop off details. You are then ready to start your adventure!
